UAE’s Midday Work Ban Starts Today: What You Need to Know.

Starting today, June 15, 2025, the UAE’s annual Midday Work Ban officially comes into effect. Implemented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), the regulation prohibits working under direct sunlight and in open areas between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM daily. The ban will remain in place until September 15.

Protecting Workers from Summer Heat!

Now in its 21st consecutive year, the Midday Work Ban is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide a safe, humane, and sustainable work environment. It aims to protect outdoor workers from heat exhaustion and sunstroke during the hottest part of the day. According to MoHRE, the initiative reflects global occupational safety standards and demonstrates the country’s commitment to worker welfare.

High Compliance Rate Across the Country!

The Ministry reports a consistent compliance rate of over 99% in recent years. This highlights strong awareness among private companies and reflects the humanitarian values in the UAE’s labour policies. The ban is also seen as a successful collaboration between the government, private sector, and society, aligning with the goals of the “We the UAE 2031” vision.

What Employers Are Required to Provide?

Companies must ensure the availability of shaded rest areas, cooling tools such as fans, drinking water, hydrating salts, and approved first aid kits during the restricted hours. These measures are designed to support workers’ health and productivity, ensuring they can rest and recover before resuming their duties.

Exceptions and Emergency Work.

Some types of essential or time-sensitive work are exempt from the ban. This includes tasks like laying asphalt or pouring concrete that cannot be delayed, and emergency work related to public utilities such as water or electricity. These exceptions must be approved by relevant authorities.

Inspections and Penalties for Violations!

MoHRE will conduct on-site inspections and monitor compliance through its regulatory systems. Members of the public can report violations via the Ministry’s call center at 600590000, through its website, or smart app. Companies found violating the ban may face a fine of AED 5,000 per worker, up to a maximum of AED 50,000.

A Step Toward a Safer Summer.

The Midday Work Ban continues to serve as a leading example of labour protection and community responsibility in the UAE. With strong government oversight and private sector cooperation, the initiative ensures that workers across the country are safer and more supported during the intense summer months.
