UAE Launches New Ministry of Foreign Trade.
The UAE has introduced major changes to its federal government structure, signaling a future-focused approach to economic growth and technological innovation. In a significant announcement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, revealed the formation of a new Ministry of Foreign Trade, with Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi appointed as the Minister of Foreign Trade.
This move is part of the country’s broader plan to strengthen international trade relationships and ensure long-term prosperity for future generations.
AI Joins UAE Government Councils!
Another groundbreaking decision is the integration of the National Artificial Intelligence System as an advisory member of the Cabinet, the Ministerial Development Council, and all boards of directors of federal entities and government companies. This will begin in January 2026.
According to Sheikh Mohammed, the aim is to “support decision-making, conduct real-time analysis, offer technical advice, and enhance the efficiency of policies adopted across all sectors.”
Ministry of Economy Renamed to Reflect Tourism Focus.
In line with the government’s new direction, the Ministry of Economy has been renamed to the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, with Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri continuing to lead the portfolio. This rebranding highlights the UAE’s strategic push to boost both the economy and its thriving tourism sector.
Strategic Shift Toward National Vision.
Reacting to the changes, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, called the move “a comprehensive developmental approach” that puts people, sustainability, and global competitiveness at the forefront.
He added that the restructuring will “open new horizons for deeper partnerships and integrated cooperation between federal and local entities under a unified national vision.”
