UAE finish World Cup qualification round with frustrating draw in Kyrgyzstan.

The UAE wrapped up the current round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against Kyrgyzstan — a match that ended on a frustrating note for the national team.

Harib Abdallah opened the scoring in the first half with a composed finish after Luan Pereira won the ball and slipped him through. It looked like UAE would cruise to a solid win, but the drama came late. Deep into stoppage time, Kyrgyzstan’s Kai Merk found the back of the net with a last-gasp equaliser, silencing the visitors and sparking joy among the home fans.

While the result didn’t impact UAE’s qualification hopes, they were already through to October’s playoff round, it wasn’t the confident ending they’d hoped for. Coach Cosmin Olaroiu had rotated his squad due to suspensions, injuries, and players at risk of yellow card bans. Despite that, the team showed flashes of quality, especially from players eager to cement their place in the starting XI.

The crowd in Bishkek, surprisingly larger than UAE’s previous home turnout, got what they came for, late drama and a reason to cheer. For the UAE, it’s now time to reset and prepare for the decisive next stage of their World Cup journey.
