UAE defeat Oman by 42 runs in Asia Cup 2025.
The UAE cricket team registered a convincing 42-run victory over Oman in their second Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday. The hosts put on an all-round performance to secure their first win of the tournament.
Strong start with the bat!
Electing to bat first, the UAE openers gave their side a solid platform. Skipper Muhammad Waseem led from the front, scoring a 54-ball 69 decorated with six boundaries and three sixes. His partner Alishan Sharafu added valuable runs with a fluent 38-ball 51, hitting seven fours and one six. Together, they guided UAE to a competitive total of 172 for 5 in their 20 overs.
Oman’s chase fell short.
Oman, fielding a relatively inexperienced side, struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. Despite some resistance from Aryan Bisht and Vinayak Shukla, the team faltered under pressure and was bowled out for 130 runs in 18.4 overs.
Bowlers shine for UAE!
The UAE bowlers complemented their batters with a clinical performance. Junaid Siddique was the standout, picking up four crucial wickets to dismantle Oman’s middle order. He was well supported by Haider Ali and Muhammad Jawadullah, who chipped in with two wickets each.
Looking ahead?
With this victory, the UAE have boosted their chances of progressing further in the tournament. The team will look to build on this momentum and continue their strong run in the Asia Cup 2025.
