Sharjah to Waive Over 600,000 Traffic Fines Older Than 10 Years
Sharjah Police have announced a major initiative to waive more than 600,000 traffic violations that are over 10 years old, provided specific conditions are met. This move comes as part of a directive from the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), aimed at addressing long-standing traffic issues and expired vehicle registrations across the emirate.
Why This Matters
The decision is designed to ease the financial burden on motorists, encourage timely vehicle registration renewals, and enhance overall road safety. More than 44,000 vehicles in Sharjah currently have expired registrations, and owners are being urged to clear their dues.
How the Waiver Works
To apply for the waiver, motorists must:
Submit a request through the Traffic and Licensing Services Center.
Pay a processing fee of Dh1,000.
Ensure the violation was recorded before April 2015.
Who Gets Exempted from the Fee
In certain cases, the Dh1,000 fee will not apply. These include:
The vehicle owner has passed away.
The owner has been continuously living abroad for more than 10 years.
The vehicle has been abandoned, and the owner cannot be reached.
Those with total fines under Dh1,000 may also be exempt from paying the fee.
No Registration Without Clearing Fines
Authorities have made it clear that motorists cannot register or renew any vehicle until all outstanding traffic fines are settled. Violations are tied to an individual’s traffic record, not just to one vehicle.
A Step Toward Safer Roads
The waiver initiative is part of Sharjah’s broader efforts to reduce traffic congestion, promote legal compliance, and offer residents a chance to start fresh. As Col. Mohammad Alay Al Naqbi of Sharjah Police stated, “This is a good opportunity for people to resolve old issues and move forward.”
