RTA Revamps 22 Bus Stations and Depots to Boost Commuter Experience in Dubai.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the upgrade of 22 public bus facilities across the emirate. The redevelopment includes 16 passenger stations and six major bus depots, all designed to elevate the daily commuting experience for residents and visitors.
A Milestone in Smart Mobility.
The initiative is a key part of RTA’s broader strategy to modernise public transport infrastructure. The goal is to provide safe, efficient, and seamless mobility options while encouraging the use of mass transit systems. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, the project aims to transform basic bus stops into fully integrated transport service hubs.
Upgrades Across Deira and Bur Dubai.
Sixteen major passenger stations were refurbished—nine located in Deira and seven in Bur Dubai. These renovations included:
Modernised waiting areas
Improved infrastructure systems
Refreshed façades
New pavements
Prayer areas at selected stations
These stations support 110 routes and accommodate up to 710 buses during peak times.
Depot Enhancements for Operational Excellence.
Six vital bus depots in Al Khawaneej, Al Qusais, Al Ruwayah, Al Awir, Jebel Ali, and Al Quoz received comprehensive upgrades. These included:
State-of-the-art maintenance workshops
Advanced engine washing systems
New inspection lanes
Improved lighting and drainage
Upgraded driver facilities
Enhanced security systems
Redesigned parking areas for better efficiency
Supporting Connected and Sustainable Travel.
The revamped facilities are part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to support first and last-mile connectivity. Enhancements like pedestrian pathways, bicycle parking, and improved access to Metro and taxi stations aim to make public transport more accessible and environmentally friendly.
A Greener, Smarter Bus Fleet!
The station upgrades coincide with RTA’s investment in a modern, low-emission bus fleet. The Authority has signed a contract to add 637 new buses between 2025 and 2026, including:
400 MAN city buses (12m, 86 passengers)
51 Zhongtong electric buses (12m, 72 passengers)
76 Volvo double-deckers (13m, 98 passengers)
70 Isuzu Anadolu articulated buses (18m, 111 passengers)
These new additions meet the European “Euro 6” low-emission standard—making Dubai the first in the MENA region to adopt such eco-friendly technology.
Conclusion.
With these upgrades, RTA continues to push forward its vision of a smarter, greener, and more integrated transport system. The improved stations and fleet expansion reflect Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and commuter convenience.
