Ramadan is expected to begin on March 1, 2025!

Ramadan is around the corner!

As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, astronomers predict it will begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in most Islamic countries. According to the Abu Dhabi-based International Astronomical Centre, the crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan is expected to be sighted on Friday, February 28.

When Will Ramadan Begin?

Based on precise astronomical calculations, Saturday, March 1 is anticipated to be the first day of Ramadan. However, the official start will depend on the moon sighting, which will determine the exact date. These calculations serve as an important guide for Muslims to prepare for this sacred period of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

Crescent Visibility Across the World

Mohammad Odeh, Chairman of the International Astronomical Centre, shared that the crescent moon will be visible through telescopes in West Asia, most of Africa, and southern Europe. In addition, large parts of the Americas may be able to spot the crescent with the naked eye.

Given that the crescent is expected to be visible in various parts of the world on Friday, February 28, and that the moon will set after sunset, it is customary for most Islamic countries to declare Saturday, March 1 as the first day of Ramadan.

The Significance of Ramadan

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time of profound spiritual reflection. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs. It is a period marked by heightened devotion, prayer, and charity, as Muslims seek to grow closer to Allah.

The start of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the new moon, making both astronomical observations and local moon sightings essential in confirming its arrival. As we look forward to the start of this blessed month, the moon’s appearance will guide Muslims worldwide in preparing for Ramadan.

Stay tuned for more updates and moon sightings as we get closer to the start of this significant period.
