Do you need a UAE camping permit?
Short recreational camping in the UAE doesn’t require a permit — you can pitch a tent for a brief stay in many public desert and beach spots. But if you plan an extended or seasonal campsite, you must get approval and pay applicable fees from the relevant municipal authority in the emirate where you’re camping.
Know the rules before you camp!
Camping season typically runs from late October to April. The UAE protects its environment with strict laws: dumping, burning or burying waste outside approved areas is illegal and can carry heavy fines. Federal Law No. 12 of 2018 and Federal Law No. 24 of 1999 set penalties aimed at preserving natural reserves and wildlife.
Individuals can face fines up to AED 30,000 for illegal dumping or burning of waste.
Establishments may face fines up to AED 1,000,000 for serious violations.
Damaging natural reserves, cutting trees or disturbing wildlife can result in fines starting from AED 10,000 and possible jail terms depending on severity.

Permits issued are for family use only and cannot be rented out or used by hotels or private companies.
Key rules for Dubai winter camps:
Permits cover the full temporary camping season and must be booked for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months.
Designated plots (for example, Al Aweer) are allocated by the municipality and must be used within outlined boundaries.
Camps must be fenced and remain within permit limits; unauthorized structures or activities are not allowed.
