Abu Dhabi is making global headlines as it becomes the future home of Stargate UAE, the world’s largest AI data centre. OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, is launching this groundbreaking project as part of a new UAE–US AI Campus, a joint effort that highlights the UAE’s growing role as a global leader in artificial intelligence and innovation.

What is Stargate UAE?

Stargate UAE will be OpenAI’s most ambitious infrastructure project yet — a massive 1-gigawatt compute cluster that will be built by UAE-based AI company G42, and operated by OpenAI and Oracle. The wider campus will offer 5 gigawatts of AI data centre capacity, making it the largest AI campus outside the US.

Big tech names like NVIDIA, Cisco, Oracle, and SoftBank are joining forces on this initiative, bringing cutting-edge technologies, AI-ready connectivity, and powerful security features to the region.

A Greener, Smarter AI Future

The facility is designed to run on a mix of nuclear, solar, and natural gas energy, helping reduce carbon emissions while supporting massive compute power. A dedicated science park will also be part of the campus, focused on driving innovation, talent development, and sustainable AI solutions.

The first phase, a 200-megawatt AI cluster, is expected to go live in 2026.

AI for Everyone in the UAE

All UAE residents will receive access to ChatGPT-Plus, and the tool will be rolled out across government services, healthcare, energy, education, and more. The UAE will be the first country in the world to integrate ChatGPT at a national level.
