Dubai Unveils New Construction Evaluation Standards; Suspends Two Engineering Firms.
Dubai Municipality has announced a major upgrade to its Contractors and Engineering Offices Evaluation System, introducing a new set of construction performance standards aimed at improving quality, transparency, and sustainability in the emirate’s rapidly growing sector. The updated system is scheduled to come into effect in early 2026.
What’s Changing in 2026?
The revised evaluation criteria are designed to provide a more accurate and comprehensive framework for assessing engineering consultancies and contractors. Key areas of focus include:
Financial stability
Emiratisation rates
Corporate social responsibility
Timely project delivery
Use of advanced technologies
Property owner feedback
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to foster a smarter, more sustainable construction sector, in line with international benchmarks.
Collaborative Approach to Implementation.
Dubai Municipality plans to work closely with engineering firms and contractors in the emirate. A series of meetings and consultations will be held to gather feedback, suggestions, and insights from industry professionals before the new system is formally adopted.
Engineer Maryam Obaid Al Muhairi, CEO of the Building Regulation and Licensing Agency, highlighted that this step reflects the authority’s commitment to enhancing the overall quality of buildings in Dubai and maintaining the city’s competitive global standing.
Suspension of Two Engineering Firms.
In line with its efforts to uphold professional integrity, Dubai Municipality has suspended two engineering consultancy offices for six months. The action was taken following violations of approved regulations, standards, and ethical practices identified by the Professional Practice Registration and Licensing Committee.
During the suspension, the firms are prohibited from obtaining licenses for new projects.
Ongoing Monitoring and Inspections.
Dubai Municipality continues to conduct periodic field visits to ensure that engineering offices comply with all laws, standards, and requirements. These inspections aim to safeguard the interests of property owners and developers, while also maintaining high standards in the construction industry.
