Dubai Taxi Company Plans Major Expansion Across the UAE!
Dubai Taxi Company (DTC), the publicly listed transportation giant, is setting its sights on significant expansion beyond Dubai. The company, founded in 1994 and now a public shareholding entity since 2023, is not only planning to grow its ride-hailing platform but also aims to extend its taxi and limousine operations to other emirates across the UAE.
Exploring New Markets
DTC’s CEO, Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, shared exciting insights about the company’s expansion plans. “We are exploring new markets. Right now, we are only operating taxis and limousines in Dubai. But we are studying our next steps to explore and see how we can expand our fleet to other emirates,” Alfalasi said.
Currently, DTC operates more than 9,000 vehicles, including 6,000 taxis, and employs 17,500 drivers across four primary business areas: taxis, VIP limousines, buses, and delivery services. The company’s impressive growth reflects its commitment to offering diverse transportation options to UAE residents and visitors alike.
Strategic Partnerships for Growth
In its quest for further expansion, DTC has already formed a key partnership with the global e-hailing platform Bolt. Since December last year, DTC has been providing limousine services through the collaboration. Bolt, which boasts more than 200 million active users in over 600 cities across 50 countries, is considered the world’s largest e-hailing app.
“If Bolt wants to expand across the UAE and beyond the region, and wants us to be a partner, we are open to it,” Alfalasi stated. “Expansion means offering other business verticals, including micro-mobility solutions such as e-scooter and e-bike rentals, food and grocery delivery, and short-term car rentals.”
DTC has already made inroads in the UAE beyond Dubai, with a presence in Abu Dhabi through its partnership with Talabat to operate delivery bikes. The company also runs school bus services in Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman, further cementing its commitment to serving communities across the Emirates.
The Road Ahead: Autonomous Taxis and More
Looking to the future, DTC is also spearheading the shift towards autonomous vehicles. The company is on track for Dubai to have self-driving taxis operating on the streets by 2026. As part of its autonomous vehicle initiative, DTC began mapping out Jumeirah 1 in September 2023, laying the groundwork for a fully-automated taxi service.
The move will make Dubai the first city in the world to commercially operate Cruise self-driving vehicles outside the United States, cementing its place at the forefront of transportation innovation.
Conclusion
DTC’s ambitions are clear — the company is not just expanding its fleet but also embracing innovation to offer cutting-edge transportation services across the UAE. Whether it’s taxis, limousines, autonomous vehicles, or micro-mobility solutions, DTC is committed to delivering world-class service to meet the evolving needs of the UAE’s transportation market.
