The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced the Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System (ARIIS) — a high-tech robot designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety across Dubai’s metro network.

Traditionally, inspecting the Metro’s rail infrastructure took up to 2,400 man-hours. With ARIIS in action, that number drops drastically to just 700 man-hours. The robot’s ability to operate autonomously allows for more frequent and efficient inspections — all without interrupting train operations.

ARIIS is equipped with cutting-edge LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors, lasers, and 3D cameras. These tools help it detect even the smallest anomalies in rail tracks and related infrastructure. RTA reports a 75% boost in operational efficiency since deploying ARIIS. Manual inspections have been reduced by 70%, and overall infrastructure assessment accuracy has improved by 40%.
