Dubai Begins Work on Blue Line Metro, Featuring the World’s Highest Station.

Dubai has officially kicked off construction on its much-anticipated Blue Line Metro! In a historic ceremony held on June 9, 2025, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum laid the foundation stone for the project. This date also holds special meaning, as the Blue Line will open on September 9, 2029, marking exactly 20 years since the Dubai Metro first launched on 9.9.2009.

World’s Highest Metro Station Unveiled

One of the biggest highlights of the Blue Line is the Emaar Properties Station, which will stand tall at 74 metres, making it the highest metro station in the world. Designed by the world-renowned architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) — the team behind the Burj Khalifa — the station will feature a regal golden cylindrical design with premium finishes like Jura limestone, granite flooring, and bronze metal panels. The design blends natural textures with modern luxury, and the station will span an area of 11,000 square metres.

Serving the Heart of the City

The Blue Line will connect nine major districts, including Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 & 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City. These areas are projected to house over one million residents as per the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. The line will help ease traffic congestion and significantly improve connectivity across the city.

14 Stations, 30 Kilometres, and a Creek Bridge

Stretching over 30 kilometres, the Blue Line will have 14 stations — including five underground and nine elevated stations — and will introduce Dubai’s first Metro bridge crossing the Creek, which will span 1,300 metres. It will also feature three interchange stations connecting the Blue Line with the existing Red and Green Lines.

Future-Proof and Eco-Friendly

Once operational, the line is expected to serve 200,000 daily riders in 2030, increasing to 320,000 by 2040. The system will carry up to 46,000 passengers per hour in both directions and includes integrated transport links like public bus bays, taxi stands, scooter and bike racks, and parking for People of Determination.

This is also Dubai’s first fully green-certified transport project, receiving Platinum Category certification for its compliance with sustainable building standards.

The Next Chapter in Dubai’s Transport Story

The construction contract for the Blue Line — valued at Dh20.5 billion — was awarded to a joint venture between Mapa, Limak, and CRRC, leading firms from Turkey and China. With a futuristic design, strategic connectivity, and sustainability at its core, the Blue Line is set to be a transformative addition to Dubai’s growing Metro network.

Stay tuned for more updates as Dubai continues to build the future, one station at a time.
