Abu Dhabi Removes 120km/h Minimum Speed Limit on E311!

Abu Dhabi Removes 120kmph Minimum Speed Limit on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (E311)

Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced the removal of the 120km/h minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (E311), a major development aimed at enhancing traffic safety and easing the movement of heavy trucks. The update was confirmed on Monday and has already taken effect.

Motorists driving on E311 Monday morning noticed that the minimum speed limit signs had been removed from the first and second lanes (leftmost lanes), marking the official end of the regulation. While the minimum speed limit is no longer in place, the maximum speed limit remains unchanged at 140km/h.

This change rolls back a rule that was introduced in April 2023, when Abu Dhabi enforced a minimum speed of 120km/h on the two leftmost lanes of E311. Drivers were fined Dh400 for violating the rule by driving below the designated speed. Notably, the rightmost lane used by heavy vehicles was exempt from this regulation.

The decision to lift the minimum speed limit is part of broader efforts by Abu Dhabi Mobility to improve road safety and traffic flow across the emirate. Just days before this update, speed limits were reduced on other major highways, including the Abu Dhabi-Sweihan Road (E20) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road (E11), highlighting the city’s ongoing commitment to safer roads.
