UAE Cancels Second-Term Exams, Opens Nine New Schools for 2025-26.

The UAE is set to welcome students back to classrooms on Monday as the 2025-26 academic year begins, with more than one million pupils across the country. To meet the growing demand, the Ministry of Education has also opened nine new schools and welcomed 25,000 new students.

Cancellation of Second-Term Exams.

In a major reform, the Ministry of Education has cancelled second-term exams for grades 5 to 12. Instead of high-pressure centralised tests, students will now be evaluated through school-based assessments spread across the year. This approach is designed to reduce stress, enhance learning quality, and promote student wellbeing while still keeping centralised exams in the first and third terms.

Introduction of AI in Classrooms!

The new academic year also introduces a unique Artificial Intelligence curriculum from KG to Grade 12. Over 1,000 teachers will deliver AI lessons with a strong emphasis on ethics and the responsible use of technology. The ministry stressed that AI will serve as a tool to support teachers, not replace them.

Focus on Health, Sports, and Nutrition.

To encourage a healthier lifestyle, the Ministry has launched a new Physical Education, Sports and Health Programme. Professional athletes will work with schools to improve physical fitness, restructure PE classes, and promote healthy nutrition. The goal is to raise future leaders and even professional players among students.

Nurturing Skills and Talents.

The Ministry has also unveiled the “From Skill to Leadership” campaign, which engages parents, role models, and community figures in the learning journey. Programmes like “My Inspiring Family” and “Inspiring People in the Field” will connect students with professionals, scientists, and athletes to help nurture their talents and ambitions.

Prepared for the New Academic Year.

To support the year ahead, the ministry has deployed over 5,500 school buses, hired 800 new teachers, distributed 47,000 laptops, and printed more than 10 million textbooks. These steps align with the UAE’s vision of creating a forward-looking, innovative education system that equips students with the skills needed to thrive in the future.
