Dubai Launches Dh650 Million Project to Transform Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made major progress in improving traffic flow through key enhancements on Meydan Road. As part of a wider effort to modernize the city’s infrastructure, the upgrades have resulted in a 50% reduction in vehicle congestion during peak hours and a 40% cut in travel times.

Improved Connectivity Across Major Roads.

The road enhancements have significantly boosted connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road via Al Meydan Street. The project included widening key exits and expanding bridges, leading to smoother traffic movement across several routes, including Al Hadiqa Street and First Al Khail Road.

New Toll Gate and Expanded Road Capacity.

In November 2024, RTA introduced a new toll gate—Al Safa South—aimed at further easing congestion in the area. Among the most impactful changes was the expansion of Exit No. D69 from one to two lanes, doubling its vehicle capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 cars per hour. Similarly, the capacity of the bridge over First Al Khail Road was increased from 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles per hour.

Enhanced Access and Reduced Waiting Times.

RTA also widened connecting ramps between the surface roads and bridges, which played a major role in reducing congestion. These changes improved access for vehicles traveling between Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, and Al Meydan Street. As a result, peak-hour crossing times dropped from seven minutes to just four—a 40% improvement.

Part of a Larger Vision for 2025.

These upgrades are part of RTA’s broader master plan, which includes over 75 traffic improvement projects scheduled for 2025 across key areas of Dubai. The aim is to accommodate the emirate’s rapid urban growth and evolving mobility needs while supporting future expansion.
