UAE Hits Record-Breaking 50.4 C in May!
The UAE just experienced its hottest May day since records began in 2003. On a scorching afternoon in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi, the temperature soared to a blistering 50.4ºC (122.7ºF) at 2:30 PM, breaking the previous May record of 50.2ºC set back in 2009.
This extreme heat isn’t just a one-off event. Last month, the country also recorded its hottest April on record, with an average daily high of 42.6ºC—topping the 42.2ºC average from April 2017. It’s clear the summer heat is arriving earlier and stronger than usual this year.
As temperatures continue to climb, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has urged residents to take precautions. Stay out of direct sunlight, drink plenty of fluids, wear light and appropriate clothing, and apply sunscreen when outdoors.
With the summer months still ahead, the UAE could see even hotter days. Make sure to take care of yourself and those around you as we head into the peak of the season.
