UAE Residents to get a 5-day break for Eid Al Fitr!

Eid Al Fitr 2025: UAE Residents Likely to Get a Five-Day Long Weekend

The first long holiday of 2025 is just around the corner! UAE residents can look forward to an extended break of up to five days to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, the Islamic festival marking the end of Ramadan. The exact duration of the holiday depends on the sighting of the crescent Moon, which determines whether Ramadan will last 29 or 30 days.

When is Eid Al Fitr 2025?

Eid Al Fitr falls on the first of Shawwal, the Islamic month that follows Ramadan. Since Islamic months are based on lunar cycles, they can be either 29 or 30 days long. This year, the UAE’s Moon-sighting committee will meet on Saturday, March 29 (Ramadan 29) to determine the start of Eid.

How Many Days Off Will Residents Get?

The Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule will depend on the Moon sighting:

  • If the crescent Moon is spotted on March 29: Ramadan will end at 29 days, and the Eid break will be from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1—a four-day holiday including the preceding Saturday weekend.

  • If the Moon is not sighted on March 29: Ramadan will extend to 30 days, with an additional holiday on Sunday, March 30 (Ramadan 30). This means the break will last from Sunday, March 30, to Wednesday, April 2—a five-day holiday when combined with the Saturday weekend.

Five-Day Holiday Expected

Good news! According to astronomical predictions by the Dubai Astronomy Group, Ramadan is expected to complete 30 days, making a five-day holiday likely. However, the final confirmation will come on March 29, when the Moon-sighting committee officially announces the Eid dates.

Participate in the Moon Sighting

The Dubai Astronomy Group encourages residents to take part in the traditional Moon sighting. To do so, look towards the western horizon after sunset on March 30. Using binoculars or a telescope can help improve visibility. If you spot the crescent, report your observation to local authorities or the official Moon-sighting committee.

Celebrate Eid with a Long Weekend

If astronomical calculations hold true, UAE residents can gear up for a well-deserved five-day break, making it the perfect time for celebrations, travel, or simply relaxing with family and friends. Stay tuned for the official announcement on March 29, and get ready for Eid Al Fitr 2025!
