Dubai to use radars to catch speeding violations, tailgating & vehicle noise.

Dubai Police to Use Radars for Tailgating Violations and More

Dubai Police has announced that radars will now be used to monitor and fine motorists for tailgating, in addition to other traffic violations. This initiative follows an increase in tailgating incidents despite previous awareness campaigns urging drivers to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Tailgating is punishable by an AED 400 fine and four black points. Additionally, repeat offenders risk having their vehicles impounded for up to 30 days.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 5, during a press conference held by the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. Officials explained that a trial period had been conducted to test the accuracy of these radars, which use artificial intelligence technology to detect violations. Brigadier Engineer Mohammed Ali Karam, Director of the Traffic Technology Department, stated, “The trial period was to ensure the accuracy of the radars.”

Additional Violations Monitored by Radars

Alongside tailgating, the new radar system will monitor several other traffic violations, including excessive vehicle noise. These advanced radars can detect noise levels, its source, and intensity, ensuring accurate enforcement. The penalty for violating noise limits is an AED 2,000 fine and 12 black points. The objective is to reduce disturbances in residential areas and promote a quieter environment for all residents.

Dubai Police emphasized the importance of responsible driving and adherence to traffic rules to ensure the safety of all road users. The radars will monitor and penalize the following violations:
