UAE Traffic Report: Over 10 Million Speeding Violations Recorded in 2024!

The Ministry of Interior has released eye-opening traffic statistics for 2024, revealing a staggering 10,174,591 speeding violations caught by radars across the UAE.

Abu Dhabi led with over five million violations, followed by Dubai with over two million and Sharjah with over one million. The other emirates recorded fewer than a million offences.

Speeding Trends and Alarming Figures!

The most concerning data showed that over five million drivers exceeded the maximum speed limit by 20km/h, while more than four million exceeded it by up to 30km/h.

Strict Speeding Penalties in the UAE.

Despite the UAE’s stringent traffic laws, speeding remains a significant issue. The penalties for exceeding speed limits are severe:

  • Exceeding the limit by more than 80km/h: Dh3,000 fine, 23 traffic points, and 60-day vehicle impoundment.

  • Exceeding by more than 60km/h: Dh2,000 fine, 12 traffic points, and 30-day vehicle impoundment.

  • Exceeding by up to 60km/h: Dh1,500 fine, six traffic points, and 15-day impoundment.

  • Other speeding violations carry fines ranging from Dh300 to Dh1,000.

Dangerous Driving and Its Consequences?

The Ministry of Interior’s report highlighted that negligence and lack of attention are major causes of accidents. Reckless driving behaviors such as running red lights, speeding, unsafe reversing, and overtaking in restricted zones significantly contribute to road incidents.

Leading Causes of Accidents in 2024?

Among the top causes of accidents in 2024, sudden lane changes led to 763 crashes, while distracted driving caused 732 incidents.

Speeding without considering road conditions resulted in 82 severe accidents across the country. Abu Dhabi recorded the highest number at 60, followed by Dubai with 19, and one accident each in Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah.

The Impact of Speeding on Road Safety.

The ministry emphasized the severe consequences of speeding-related accidents, including vehicle rollovers, pedestrian collisions, rear-end crashes, and crashes into fixed objects such as lampposts, barriers, and road signs.

With these alarming statistics, authorities continue to urge motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to speed limits to enhance road safety across the UAE.
